Your Counseling Sessions Are Confidential By Law
What you discuss in a counseling session is protected information under the HIPAA privacy policy. In essence, these laws state that anything spoken during the counseling session stays between the therapist and the patient. It cannot be repeated, nor can it be used against them in a court of law. Exceptions to Patient Confidentiality

If a client threatens to harm himself/herself or threatens to harm someone else, we will make every effort to ensure the safety of all.

If abuse of a child or vulnerable adult is suspected or disclosed, mental health professionals are mandated reporters by law and are required to report the information to the appropriate department of social services.
