WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THERAPY

A Judgement-Free Conversation With Our Therapist

At the beginning of the relationship, the therapist typically invites you to share what’s been going on in your life, what’s on your mind, what’s bothering you, or whether there are any goals you’d like to discuss. You’ll be invited to speak openly. You won’t be criticized, interrupted, or judged as you speak.

Your conversation will be kept confidential. This is a special, unique type of conversation in which you can say exactly what you feel—with total honesty—without worrying that you’re going to hurt someone’s feelings, damage a relationship, or be penalized in any way. Anything you want—or need—to say is OK.

A Collaborative Counseling Plan to Suit Your Needs

You and your therapist will determine how often you will meet. Typically, weekly sessions are recommended in the beginning in order to develop the relationship more quickly.

Sometimes, you may receive “homework” to complete between sessions.

An example of a homework assignment could be to exercise three times a week or make a nightly journal entry or any number of “steps” and “challenges” relevant to your goals. During your next session, you might share your progress and address any areas where you got frustrated, stuck, or off-track.

Being honest with your therapist is a key component of change. Balanced Life Counseling Services offers a peaceful, supportive environment where you can develop a trusting relationship with your therapist.
